A concept dreamed up a few years ago by The Western Australian Historic Touring Car Club and The Vintage Sports Car Club of WA has been run and won in the West. At our AGM last Monday night we admitted a new member to our Life Membership group. This person joined us in 2002, has been on the Committee since 2003 (still serving) and the longest serving President for 7 years 2004-2010 They won the Sporting Car Clubs Historic Touring Cars Over 3 Litre State Championship in 2011, our SA Historic Touring Car Cup in 2009, 2014, 2015 and won Driver of the Year 2015. Historic Touring Car Association of South Australia was formed in July 1998 and our first stand alone race meeting was at Mallala with the Austin 7 Club and we had 18 cars. Gallery of 16 of those entrants will be going up soon.
Stuart Barnes Paul Atkins and Ian Pringle have just returned from the Baskerville Historic meeting in Tasmania. A great Historic event with 9 sessions on the track over 4 days with most races completed by all.
Well what a great weekend was had at The Bend. With 33 cars from all around Australia a great show was put on by all the competitors. The cars were prepared immaculately and we still had 28 cars running on Sunday. Lap records were blown away in 3 categories and we put on a great show. Well last night we braved the cold weather and had 21 people down at THR Developments for our Shop tour and Pizza Night. A great night was had looking at the spectacular restoration and racecar work that Nick and his team carry on at Wingfield.

Well due to COVID interuptions Round 3 was run after Round 4 this year. We had 2 competitors entered but 1 Mini had a fuel pump failure on the 1st race and so Richard Harris in his Mini was the only Historic Touring Car running for the weekend. What started of as great weather soon turned to shit but 10 cars and 20 members still met at OTR Pt Wakefield for our cruise. Heading up to Seppeltsfield first for morning tea and a tour of the facilities. Then to Menglers Hill Lookout and then on to The Stockwell Pub which has just been refurbished. Great food and mateship for the day.
Whilst we had 5 cars there last year only Neil was there this year in his trusty XW GT Falcon.
What could have been a great spectacle was reduced to basically a club meeting style of event. We had 3 cars testing over the weekend, Rob Ford, Paul Atkins and Evan Gobell

Well with Mallala Anzac Historics behind us the next hit out for Touring Cars is at The Bend Friday 7th thru Sunday 9th May. With a 30 car field from all around Australia it should be quite a spectacle.
What a great weekend of racing. 17 cars qualified for the weekend and the battle for 1st went down to the wire between Kym Burtons Falcon, Josh Axfords BDA Escort and Adam Smiths Falcon with Kym and Maria Burton coming out victorious on the weekend. Congratulations to Josh Axford in his immaculate MK1 BDA Escort in lowering the track record at Collingrove for Under 2 Litre Historic Touring Cars by over a second at the SA Championship on the weekend. Well after 6 months off it was time to get together again and share some social banter. Our Pizza and Drink night at the Sporting Car club saw some 22 people turn up and the atmosphere and chatter was great.

Well after many years of discussion the time is coming for the Replacement of Avgas in our Historic Cars. For detailed information go to the CAMS website and look up Regulations - Manual of Motorsport - Historic and it will give you all your options.
From March 2019 we are now affiliated with CAMS and this means members will no longer need to be a member of another club to get there CAMS licence. Seems to make sense seeing as we are all about racing.
At our first meeting for 2019 our new committee was appointed and we had a members friends Hot Rod on stage. Hi all, The Phillip Island Classic Festival of Motorsport date was announced yesterday. The meeting is on - 8-9-10th March 2019, so get planning and get your accommodation for a great weekend of motorsport.
Well our last General Club meeting in June was a cracker. With guests from HQs and the HRR joining us for our presentation from The Bend we had 40 attendees. A really great informative presentation from Paul Trengove ensured everyone went away very enlightened about the exciting things happening at The Bend.
Congratulations to the following members who after having a run at the Bend over the weekend are now LAP RECORD HOLDERS on the 4.95k International Circuit. NCB Rob Smith with a 2.24.30 Class NCC Rory ONeill on the 4.95k International Circuit. Class NCE Josh Axford with a 2.16.82 No doubt these records will stand for a while on that circuit as it’s not the preferred circuit for our category. Well done guys.

The 3rd rnd of the SCC Master of Mallala series is on 19th and 20th of August. Theres a National Mini Challenge on at this event as well so our Mini Touring Cars may be double entered and run in both races if they want. At our last committee meeting based on expected numbers racing, it was decided to postpone the THR Cup until later in the year. So the 2nd round of the SCC series on June 10th and 11th is now just a points round for Driver of the year still. We will run our THR Cup and $150.00 driver rebate at the November round.
