Vale Rory O’Neill
To all Historic Touring Car members around Australia it is with great sadness that we inform you of the recent passing of our long term member Rory O’Neill.
In 2004 a middle-aged bloke burst onto the Historic Touring Car scene here in South Australia with a newly built Porsche 911. For the next 16 years Rory lived a racing drivers dream, racing all over Australia in 147 Race meetings (Over 500 Races) in his two Porsches.
In 2008 and 2009 Rory teamed up with Tony Parkinson and created and ran the Lobethal Grand Prix Revival which was an awesome event.
Rory was our Club President for 2014, 2015 and 2016 and was Chairman of the Sporting Car Clubs Historic Racing Register in 2010 and 2011. He was one of only two members to have won 3 or more Drivers of The Year awards in 2006, 2011 and 2017. He was also 2nd or 3rd in the Driver of the year awards a further 6 times.
His first race at Mallala was in July 2004 and his final race was at Phillip Island in March 2019
.In 2020 Rory and Fiona left there stunning home and 11 car garage in Aldgate and moved to Noosa in Queensland. He continued to come back to Adelaide to catch up with friends and he was at our 2022 Driver of the year awards.
A businessman, a gentleman and all-round good guy, Rory will be missed greatly.
On behalf of our members we pass our respects on to Fiona and the rest of the O’Neill family at this time of sadness.
Thanks for the memories Rory.
