Interstate Racing for members
Well our 2026 Racing season has commenced and 1st event for the year was at the new One Raceway in Goulburn NSW. (Formerly Wakefield Park)
With the redevelopment of this track over the last two years Stuart Barnes was the first SA Historic Touring Car to run the track and he was very impressed. As the only two way track in Australia it provided excitement every day, with one direction run on the Sat and the other direction on the Sunday. Stuarts comments was the track is awesome and the running of the event was first class with a qualifying and two races run on both the Sat and Sunday.
As with any new track it takes time to master and Stuart says he’ll be back.
Last weekend the 2nd interstate meeting was The Phillip Island Classic which this year reverted to a 3 day meeting and only 3 races for Historic Touring Cars. This year we had 6 members travel to the island, 4 of whom had never raced there before in a field of 23 cars in Under 2 Litre Class.
Unfortunately for Stephen Rosenberg in his Cortina he had engine issues on the Friday and was unable to compete. David Cheney another 1st timer was in awe of the track and loved going over Lukey Heights with his Mini running Top 10 all weekend. Rob Ephgrave in his Cortina ran steady all weekend and also fell in love with his times steadily improving all weekend. Shaun Relf in the mighty Volvo was another top 10 car until the head gasket decided not to do its job anymore on Sunday morning. Stuart Barnes was back for his 22nd time at the track and another Top 10 runner and fastest Cortina for the weekend. Finally Keith Williamson made the trip as well but chose to take his Clubman for a faster laptime and had a great race meeting as well.
Great too see our members flying the SA Flag, Thanks guys.
Our Next Outing is our THR Developments All Historic Mallala in April and with 39 entries promises to be our biggest Mallala meeting ever.
Love to see you out there supporting our members.
